Israel travels

with 3 comments

So it’s been just over 2 weeks since I’ve been gone from Vancouver.  Over these last few weeks I was able to situate myself over to life down in the middle east.  I was able to finally eat a falafel and have milky (choco pudding with whipping cream). I have gone to the beach half a dozen times.  I even got to go to the markets in Jerusalem.  Jerusalem looks much the same as before yet it’s really cool to see the minor changes and remember how things were.  Tel Aviv is definetely different from Jerusalem with the secular city life.  It makes you feel like you are in two different countries.   I was able to celebrate my sis’s bday again and spend lots of time with the family!!  It’s funny how loud we can get when we are all together.
Oct 8th was Yom Kippur which is the day of attonement.  It’s a day where the whole city stops to remember what God has done for them. The more religious Jews will go to the synagogue and fast for the day and make sure to have no luxuries but to ask forgiveness of their sins.  The whole city stops though in the night and there is no work to be had and no cars are allowed to drive.  It’s crazy that no matter what their beliefs are that everyone stops and relaxes.  Most people wear white to symbolize purity and removing their sins. I went to the market in the morning of the day and saw Rabbi’ cutting the throats of chicken to spill the blood for the person’s sin (those who paid a bit of money).  sundown to sundown of seeking God and remembering him when our stomachs ached and we couldn’t go far but to synagogue really.  It was a wonderful time to experience that in Israel.
On this past weekend I went with my family to Eilat, the southern point of Israel. This is a resort town on the red sea where you come to see the fishes and coral.  It was amazing as always and about 35 degrees.   It’s wonderful how Israel can still be so warm though and in October!
We made a small detour to Petra, in Jordan.  It’s only 2 hours away and it’s sooo great!!  I’ve seen Eilat before but Petra I’ve never been.  It’s the #2 world wonder and it’s spectacular. Pics cannot describe how beautiful it really is, definetely a lot better then I expected!  You’ll have to come visit
Lots has been done, and my sis will be leaving back for Canada tomorrow, it’s great that I get to stay for quite a bit longer. Hope all is well for everyone, things are great over here.

Hi Everyone,

I thought this would be a good opportunity to let everyone know that I am safe and in Israel officially.  It has been so long so it’s familar and strange at the same time.

I arrived in Frankfurt on Monday where I spent a day site seeing.  I was able to go to the famous German poet Goethe’s house and see a lot of his accomplishments.  It was really neat even though I couldn’t understand a lot of the work.  It was great coming back to Europe and seeing such great architecture and culture.  I was able to see so much in such a small amount of time, and make it to the airport in time.

On Tuesay I arrived early to Tel-Aviv.  I went to bed and woke up early where my whole family headed to the beach.  We relaxed for the day, and enjoyed the sun.  It’s still about 24 now.  Yesterday I went on a hike to the Ein Gedi which is just gorgeous (i’ll post pics later) and then to the dead sea.  It’s so nice to be back in Israel!!  I went to a nice cafe today in the good part of town and then went to the mall and later at night we had a drink on the beach promanade.  Even shopping there was this fabulous backdrop of the water and sand.  How I missed that!!  Things are going very well, and are busy so it’s hard to get away.  I hope everyone back home is well
