Madrid

with one comment

We arrived in Madrid late Sunday morning yet managed to wake up early enough for breakfast before everyone else. I had this hot chocolate & a waffle. What I realized is that the people of Madrid have a sweet tooth as it wasn’t hot chocolate it was more like drinking rich chocolate; surprisingly not as good as it sounds.

We made it to the Royal Palace before much of a line started, only a 10 min. walk from the hotel. The Palace was modeled after Versailles as the King was from Bourbon rule after the last one died without an heir. The palace was gorgeous as expected my favorite room was the throne room with crystal chandeliers. The artillery room was also quite well stocked with weaponry which was interesting to see from the renaissance period.

There are plazas everywhere in Madrid. I enjoyed going to Plaza Mayor & Puerta de Sol which at night were filled with lights and people just hanging out & talking. Shops stayed open late and restaurants only opened at 9pm for eating. Tapas bars were everywhere even though they had mostly pork and seafood.

Our first night we managed to go to a Flamenco bar called Las Tablas. I really enjoyed watching Flamenco especially in Spain. There were 2 main dancers and the guy was really funny because he was super sweaty and every time he twirled you could see sweat fly off his face into the crowd. Yuk, I’m just glad we sat far enough away to miss the spray

Merry Christmas

with 2 comments

Holidays are always so much fun.  This year I’ve started it off by making colourful rings around the house to make it look festive. My nephew and I also made snowflakes!  It’s so much fun, just like when we were little.  The place looks so festive.  Each day my nephew also opens a chocolate to get closer to Christmas from the advent calanders.
The prep time has been coming close with going to Madrid.  Today is the day!!  I’ll be off for 7 days to the lovely city.  I’ll be in a new city for Christmas oh what fun.  Plus Christmas in Europe is amazing. They love their lights and festivities.  I should be going to a couple markets and even ice skating hopefully.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas & a Happy Channakah!!

fresh pasta

with 2 comments

Pasta, yum.. is that not just a wonderful invention.  I love pasta as most of you all know, it’s in my blood.  I eat it at least once a week if not 3 times. hehehe  My whole family loves pasta and there’s so many kinds to love.   My favorite is farfalle, meaning butterflies Not bowties!
There’s lets see about 350 types.  Linguini, Fettuccine, spaghetti, penne, fusili, gnocchi, lasagna, conchiglie, rotini, maccheroni, manicotti, pappardelle, tortelloni, etc.  I’m sure you get the point.  Anyway I made pasta from scratch yesterday!  It’s pretty easy to, although a bit time consuming.
First you made th dough from flour, egg, water, yeast, and then you let it rise a bit.   You roll it out and then cut it and make some great pasta.  Yesterday we had fettuccine with a red sauce.  Boy did it taste good and even better since you’re proud of your accomplishments.  It was a lot of fun, I’m sure it won’t be my last time.

Bee Sting

with 3 comments

Yesterday I was putting my nephew to bed as my sis has late classes on Thursdays.   I got up off the couch as usual to where eitan’s room was.  Somewhere while I was putting on my slippers and heading down the room; I felt this thing hurt my toe and I looked down. There sat a bee on my big toe.
Not thinking too much, I flung my slippers off to try and get if off me.  It partly worked the bee went flying but it was too late I was stung.
Now an anaphalactic shock takes about 2 min and since I can’t remember a time when I’ve been stung before I became really nervous.  I got my epipen ready and then found some tweezers to get the stinger out.  It hurt soooooo much!!!
I tried calling my sis but she didn’t pick up the phone. Then I called my mom just in case something happened so then she’d know.  Finally my sis came home and I put some polysporin and ice on it.  My big toe definetely got swollen but happily my breathing wasn’t affected.  Ahhh scary!!!  Well at least I know that I’m not allergic to bee stings.  It’s fantastic given the chances of what I’m allergic too.

Is going to Madrid for Christmas

with 2 comments

So I have some exciting news.. as you can tell.  I’m going to Madrid for Christmas 🙂  Yeah, it’s going to be great.   I’ve never been to Spain before, let alone the capital city and I’ve always wanted to go.  I will be going with my sister for 7 days, well more like 6, and with our hotel and flight we are paying less then $700 US.  It’s a great deal.  Now before anyone gets upset, you should remember that I am a tourist in Israel.  The law states that you must leave the country every 3 months.  So I am officially fulfilling my duty 🙂  I’m definetely not complaining though 🙂
I bought this book from DK eyewitness travel for Madrid so this way we can see as much as we can.  As it will be the hoiday I’m sure some things will be closed and hard to get to.  I hope we can see as much as we can though.  If anyone has been to Madrid before and knows places that I definetely must see.  Also places to eat out and and things to buy that would be very helpful.  Thanks,

Café-Café

take your time

My new favorite place to go is Café-Café.  It’s a small artsy coffee shop with a nice atmosphere.  It’s kind of like Starbucks in Vancouver.  There may even be the same amount of locations; talk about crazy!  Of course many people will go here late into the hours to hang out and enjoy themselves.  Best of all it does not close at 10pm like many Vancouver places.  Tel-Aviv is more like Europe and New York.   It’s great because it’s trendy and with all the new fads and there’s a lot of culture too.  It’s hard to believe you’re in the Middle East.  Too bad you guys can’t come visit and see for yourselves.  One day.
I almost forgot my favorite thing about Café-Café is that my brother-in-law managed to pick-up many coupons for a free coffee & a crossiant.  So all you need to do is go over and over again.  My family and I have taken advantage of this of course.  Let’s see as of right now I’ve gone maybe 6 times and we’ve used maybe 12 coupons now.  Talk about a deal!  They are good until the end of December so I’ll continue to go as much as I can.  🙂
