New Jeans, Sunglasses & Boots

with one comment

I love buying new things.  It makes me happy.  I’m not a shopoholic though.  I love finding deals it just makes me feel good.  I don’t go to the mall a lot either as it kind of annoys me with repetitiveness & things which are way over priced and things I likely don’t need.
That being said sometimes it takes me a long, long time to find things I need or want.  Such as a new pair of Jeans… um I think I bought a pair a year ago sometime and before that 3 years.  I found some nice jeans here but they didn’t fit.  I went to another store and found a really nice pair and they fit and since it was reasonable I bought it!!!
Later that day I went to look for some sunglasses as my last pair was from 3 years ago.  I’ve been looking around but there’s either the really cheap stuff that keeps breaking or the really expensive stuff.  I can’t justify $500 for a new pair of sunglasses even if they are designer.  I’ve been going back and forth to shops these last few months as sunglasses are a necessity in Israel and I’ve found some nice expensive ones and lot which are good but I don’t think look good on me.  Anyways I found this pair which was a bit more then I’d like to pay but was in the range and they are a new & upcoming designer called Zoe Occhiali.  I think she’s even Italian, bonus!!
Today I went went with my sister to look for some boots for her.. the long awaited process.  We went in and found a nice pair of leather boots which were nice but they were too big for her.  Yet they fit me perfectly.  They are short and stretchy so it’s easy to get in.  They are high but not too high for walking.  They had a point but not too much as I don’t like them too pointy.  And They were a remarkable price and since I never find boots that I like I bought them.  My sister even found a pair too!  Crazy!  So now I’ve completed #73, #74 & #76  all in one month, amazing!!!

The Qumran Caves & the Dead Sea Spa

leave a comment »

This past weekend I went to the Qumran caves with my mom.  These caves are down by the Dead Sea best known as the hiding place of the Dead Sea scrolls.    It is said that there was a sect found living there likely the Essenes who were traditionalist and followed strict purity laws.  Regardless of who was there before 900 scrolls were found in these caves by Bedouins in 1947.  Among these books the most famous was Isaiah, the version we use today.  It was really neat to take this detour and get to see such a historical place and where the scrolls came from.

We continued driving to the Dead Sea Spa, our original destination.   There I managed to get in the Dead Sea for several minutes to float.  It was cold though and so I got out quickly and used the hot sun to dry me.

I went to the mud station and lathered myself up with this mud.  Normally I wouldn’t like to get dirty but this Dead Sea mud has healing capabilities.  People come from all over the world to help their illnesses.  Originally it helped my eczema about 5 years ago.  I put mud everywhere even in my hair and then took this nice hot sulphur shower to get it all out.  Sulphur stinks incase you didn’t know but it gets off the mud.

Later we went inside for a warmer time in the hot indoor sulphur pools.  They are so strong and filled with rich minerals you can only stay in for 15 min. at a time.  We went in at least 4 times.  It was sooo relaxing.  It was a great spa to relax and forget about things.

I washed off in the end and washed my hair but guess what the sulphur smell is so strong that it stayed with us.  We have to continuously scrub our body each shower and still we could smell a bit of sulphur.  LOL even now almost a week later and all these showers later I can still smell the sulphur.  When will it go away?  I think it may have seeped into my pores and is coming out again.  Hopefully it won’t be much longer though as I can’t handle the smell.

Planting a tree

with one comment

Today I had a great experience in Israel. After some warfare & trouble these last days it was nice to take a break. Today is a special day for Israel it’s a holiday called Tu Bishvat. This holiday although a minor holiday marks the new year of the trees. One would normally celebrate it by planting a tree and eating dried fruits and nuts. I found out the holiday today and we barely made it to plant a tree in time after running around with errands. I managed to get a hold of a tourist office and find someone who was just closing to allow us to come. We went off to Neot Kedumim which is a beautiful Biblical landscape reserve in Israel. It was just gorgeous; I wonder why I hadn’t heard of it before.
We made it there just in time before closing and had to pay a small amount to plant a tree. I planted an oak tree with my mom & nephew. We said a blessing for the tree as we planted it and pray and it will grow big & tall and that it will get enough rain. I planted right beside this beautiful red poppy and then surrounded my tree with rocks so someone won’t step on it. It was just great!!! The land was so beautiful and it did feel like Bible times being there. I’ve wanted to plant a tree here in Israel and wasn’t sure if I’d get the opportunity so it was wonderful that I was able to. This also checks off #96 plant a tree. I’d definitely like to go back to this reserve later and experience some of the other activities offered.
