Hawaii

with 2 comments

I went to Waikiki from December 7-15. It was my first time back to Hawaii for over 12 years. What a beautiful place to visit and go for vacation. There’s so much to do and see, but best of all there’s plenty of time for relaxation.
We swam by the beach and pool most days and sun tanned. It’s nice to be able to swim in December, and not have to freeze 🙂 We rented a car to be able to see more of the Island and so we went up to the North where there are more waves for experienced surfers. There was a huge competition going on but we didn’t have time to stay and watch and there wasn’t any parking in site.  The waves are crazy there some times over 10 feet tall. My brother-in-law did some crazy waves without even realizing that they were for only kamikaze surfers. I’m glad he didn’t miss any of the waves and get hit into the coral, that would have been truly unfortunate.
One of the days I went out surfing with my sister. We had 3 person private lesson for only $25 for a 1.5 hour lesson. It was great! They took us outside on the boards and helped push us into the wave as the hardest part is the momentum in paddling. The waves were so much calmer here and I managed to make almost each wave!!! It was sooooo much fun and I rode most of the waves til the shore until I jumped off as I didn’t want to have to paddle as much 🙂  Can’t wait to go back and surf in Hawaii!!
We went on a road trip and went to a beach with these turtles. Usually the turtles lay on the beach and people just stare at them. But they wanted to go for a swim. You were allowed to swim 2 feet away for them, so I decided why not swim with the turtles 🙂 It was amazing swimming with 3 turtles about half my size! A great experience!
Along the road trip we stopped for some amazing snow cones. It was ice cream with shaved ice and several flavors like pineapple, coconut, mango. All I know is there were long line and It was delicious. I’m actually craving more right now that I think about it.   We also went to a little Thai restaurant that is very famous in Honolulu and they gave us this really tasty meal all from the side of a truck 🙂
While in Hawaii  we also went to hike Diamond Head. It’s a short hike with a long line-up in the tunnel but a gorgeous view of  Waikiki from the top.  It’s an easy hike, very accessible I wouldn’t suggest going in the peak hours likely at 10am as the lines are crazy busy but maybe go early or later in the evening.  It’s well worth the views.
During the trip there’s a few places to go shopping too. I went to the mall nearby which was a quick minute walk from our hotel. There’s some new variety there with lots of nice designer stores. There’s the outlets just outside the downtown core which I bought several things from. I actually enjoyed the flea market of all things. It consists of many stands around the outside of a large stadium. The prices are really reasonable as this is where most of the locals shop, so you can buy many items and gifts for reasonable prices instead of the mark-up prices they have in the city.
We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian village in Waikiki. I really enjoyed the stay there, I highly recommend it. They have everything you’d need and more. They have a couple private pools and water slides, several stores for anything you can think of. Restaurants, bars, grocery stores, coffee shops, and a private beach. There’s also many animals like you’re in a mini zoo. You can find fish, parrots, flamingos, and penguins. I took my niece to the penguins most mornings and she loved watching them eat. She is so cute, and basically jumped into the fish pond to stare at all the fish. It’s a great place to take kids 🙂
In Hawaii there’s so much to see & do. I’m glad I had the chance to visit again and have a break from everyday life to appreciate the world around me.

Progress 2

Things are good. The weather is sunny and beautiful. I’ve been able to go swimming already in April. I even had a mini sunburn one day.
My mini garden is really taking off. The whole set-up is much better then before and I keep buying new Geraniums to make the place more beautiful. My mini tomatoes and artichokes are growing!! Maybe 8cm now!! I’ve been watering everything every 2 days at least and watch them grow. All the neighbours see me tending the garden and smile.
My sis broke her laptop about 5 days ago and so it’s not so great to be without the internet. We are looking for a new, good, and not so expensive laptop. Any suggestions? I’ve been looking at some Toshiba/HP/LG yet I can’t decide what’s best still.
My 101 list is slowly getting accomplished which really makes me happy. Some things are so easy to do and others are hard. Taking it all one step at a time.

Ciao

New Jeans, Sunglasses & Boots

with one comment

I love buying new things.  It makes me happy.  I’m not a shopoholic though.  I love finding deals it just makes me feel good.  I don’t go to the mall a lot either as it kind of annoys me with repetitiveness & things which are way over priced and things I likely don’t need.
That being said sometimes it takes me a long, long time to find things I need or want.  Such as a new pair of Jeans… um I think I bought a pair a year ago sometime and before that 3 years.  I found some nice jeans here but they didn’t fit.  I went to another store and found a really nice pair and they fit and since it was reasonable I bought it!!!
Later that day I went to look for some sunglasses as my last pair was from 3 years ago.  I’ve been looking around but there’s either the really cheap stuff that keeps breaking or the really expensive stuff.  I can’t justify $500 for a new pair of sunglasses even if they are designer.  I’ve been going back and forth to shops these last few months as sunglasses are a necessity in Israel and I’ve found some nice expensive ones and lot which are good but I don’t think look good on me.  Anyways I found this pair which was a bit more then I’d like to pay but was in the range and they are a new & upcoming designer called Zoe Occhiali.  I think she’s even Italian, bonus!!
Today I went went with my sister to look for some boots for her.. the long awaited process.  We went in and found a nice pair of leather boots which were nice but they were too big for her.  Yet they fit me perfectly.  They are short and stretchy so it’s easy to get in.  They are high but not too high for walking.  They had a point but not too much as I don’t like them too pointy.  And They were a remarkable price and since I never find boots that I like I bought them.  My sister even found a pair too!  Crazy!  So now I’ve completed #73, #74 & #76  all in one month, amazing!!!

Planting a tree

with one comment

Today I had a great experience in Israel. After some warfare & trouble these last days it was nice to take a break. Today is a special day for Israel it’s a holiday called Tu Bishvat. This holiday although a minor holiday marks the new year of the trees. One would normally celebrate it by planting a tree and eating dried fruits and nuts. I found out the holiday today and we barely made it to plant a tree in time after running around with errands. I managed to get a hold of a tourist office and find someone who was just closing to allow us to come. We went off to Neot Kedumim which is a beautiful Biblical landscape reserve in Israel. It was just gorgeous; I wonder why I hadn’t heard of it before.
We made it there just in time before closing and had to pay a small amount to plant a tree. I planted an oak tree with my mom & nephew. We said a blessing for the tree as we planted it and pray and it will grow big & tall and that it will get enough rain. I planted right beside this beautiful red poppy and then surrounded my tree with rocks so someone won’t step on it. It was just great!!! The land was so beautiful and it did feel like Bible times being there. I’ve wanted to plant a tree here in Israel and wasn’t sure if I’d get the opportunity so it was wonderful that I was able to. This also checks off #96 plant a tree. I’d definitely like to go back to this reserve later and experience some of the other activities offered.

Progress

How are things going? The weather’s been quite nice besides having no rain that is. I’d almost think I’d never say that, but in Israel they need all the rain they can get. We had this weird overcast brownish colour in the sky and you know what it was, a sandstorm. I thought it was a bit strange, but apparently it happens every once in a while.
Then I’ve been spending time helping my sister clean the place everything someone comes to look at the place. Oh course  it’s hard to know whether to sell or not. When terms change it makes it more difficult, but we know that  its all under control.
The 101 list as it stands is slowly getting smaller. When I look at it some things seem not too bad and then others almost impossible. Such as how can I learn 500 words in 3 languages? Also there was something I was thinking about can you check off 2 things even when they are similar? Such as Nancy pointed out I read a novel, Nostromo a classic and then also put it under read a book each month for 6 months? I was thinking about this before too but thought there’s no way I shouldn’t get credit for reading a book especially when it was sooo long. I’ve also started another book this month, the Great Gatsby and figure that will help. How about reading a book each month for 6 months; does this mean I can read 6 books, or do I really need to wait each month to start or get credit for another? I wrote all these new words to learn from the classics I’ve been reading but does it count if I learn 101 new words? lol I guess I really should have thought was I was reading and been more specific next time. Comments please, I’m at a bit of a dilemma on what TO DO.
Just to note, watching movies, really easy to do for me, I should have increased the amount as I watch a lot. Hope everythings is going well. Ciao
